Killarney Vale Podiatry

Diabetes Management

Diabetes can present extensive complications to the lower limbs and feet. In podiatry it is our job to assess the risks, test for issues and to try to prevent any complications arising.

Regular 12 monthly diabetic foot checks are a Necessity when it comes to preventing life threatening complications of diabetes. It is also recommended that you see your podiatrist regularly for general foot care maintenance as well.

Complications that can occur in relations to diabetes is the reduction in blood flow to the feet due to damaged blood vessels, this in turn can lead to a reduction in protective sensation. Wounds and ulcer’s are the byproduct of this complication, when left untreated this can lead to infection, excessive tissues damage and may result in amputation.

At Killarney vale podiatry we do extensive diabetic foot checks using the latest in blood flow study technology. TBI (Toe brachial index) and ABI (ankle brachial index) these tests allow us to determine how at risk you are of complications due to reduction in blood flow. Extensive neurological testing is also performed to determine you level of peripheral sensation.
